Wade was adopted by Steve and Candace Wilson and raised in Tallahassee, Florida. He grew up with two older sisters and was the baby of the family.

Those who knew Wade as a child have described him as sweet, curious, playful, helpful, caring, and full of personality. Family was a big part of his childhood, and many of the memories Wade still talks about today are surprisingly simple ones: being home, being with his sisters, and the traditions they shared growing up.

The childhood and family photos on this page are small pieces of that life. School pictures, family moments, holidays, and ordinary days that existed long before most people had ever heard his name.

Wade’s mother, Candy, has also spoken publicly about his childhood and about the family behind everything people now see in the news.

She has shared memories of Wade growing up, his adoption, his personality as a child, and the family life that surrounded him. She has also spoken about how painful the years since his arrest and sentencing have been for their family.

Her perspective is an important part of Wade’s story because his case did not happen in isolation. Behind Wade are parents, siblings, relatives, and people who remember the little boy in these photographs and have their own memories of the person they knew long before any of this happened.

Candy has continued to speak about hope, fairness, and the importance of people standing together as Wade’s legal case continues.
